UNISA Plays a vial role by allowing both graduates and people with only Grade 12 to apply for various courses offered by the University, including the following teaching qualifications:

Higher Certificate in Education (90093)

Students enrolling for and completing the Higher Certificate in Education with the intention to apply for admission towards either the BEd Foundation Phase or the BEd Intermediate Phase must select MTE1501 (Mathematics 1 for Teachers) as one of the elective modules.

Higher Certificate in Education Foundation Phase and Intermediate Phase (90093 – FIP)

The Higher Certificate in Education FIP stream is the only Higher Certificate articulating into the UNISA. Bachelor of Education Foundation and Intermediate phase qualifications.

Higher Certificate in Education Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching (90093 – SPF)

This Higher Certificate in Education SPF stream is the only Higher Certificate articulating into the UNISA Bachelor of Education Senior Phase and FET qualification.

Who can register for Teaching Course?

  • Applicants (new applicants & Unisa students who applied for admission to a new qualification) may only register if they have received an offer of placement from Unisa and have accepted the offer online. Unisa reserves the right to not process and / or to cancel your registration if it is found that you were incorrectly admitted to a qualification. 
  • Re-registering students may register for the 2024 academic year once the registration period opens.

  1. Valid South African ID or Passport.
  2. Valid email address and cell phone number.
  3. Copy of your Matric certificate.
  4. Copy of your official tertiary academic record.
  5. Copy of your marriage certificate (only for those who are married)
  6. Pay application fee.
