The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) distributes social grants to more than 18 million people every month. The amount of money received by beneficiaries of permanent grants increased in April and will remain in place during June.

Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu has increased Sassa’s social grants. The Finance Minister approved these increases.

Here’s How Much Sassa Grants Will Be For June 2023

The increases to social grants are as follows

  • Older Persons grant – R2,080
  • Older Persons 75 years and older – R2,100
  • Disability grant – R2,080
  • War Veterans grant – R2,100

Based on latest updates from Sassa payment dates for June will be as follows:

  • Older Persons Grant – 2 June
  • Disability Grant – 5 June
  • Children’s Grant – 6 June

National Treasury explained that social development will receive R1.1 trillion in the Medium Term Expenditure Framework for social grants and welfare services, and to strengthen advocacy for women, youth, and people with disabilities.

Sassa grants are paid at the Post Office on these dates. Alternatively, grant beneficiaries can collect their money at several retail stores including Pick N Pay, Boxer, Usave, Shoprite and Checkers.

Beneficiaries can also choose to have the grant paid directly to their bank account. This is an attractive option for many beneficiaries as it allows them to access their funds at any time.

Child care and old age grants continue to receive the majority of government spending, with the state expecting an increase in beneficiaries over the next three years. In 2023/24, 17.5 million beneficiaries will receive the two grants.
