Walter Sisulu University is a multi-campus, comprehensive University, with its seat at its Nelson Mandela Drive campus in Mthatha. The University has four campuses in Mthatha, Butterworth, Buffalo City and Queenstown, which are headed by Campus Rectors.

Applications are hereby invited for the following positions based in Mthatha Campus.

Lecturer: Mathematics, Peromnes-8, Permanent

Department of Mathematical Sciences and Computing wishes to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced academic who will add value to the department. Responsibilities of the appointed academic will include teaching and learning, research, community engagement, curriculum development, programme coordination and providing administration support to the Department and Faculty in pursuit of academic objectives.

Minimum Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics (NQF Level 9)
  • A PhD will be an added advantage.
  • Liaise with other academic and non-academic units and external parties.
  • Programme and course quality assurance.
  • Plan and undertake research within niche areas of the department.
  • Promote research and community partnership within the department.
  • Active participation in departmental activities including performing departmental and faculty committee duties.

Minimum Experience:

  • Two years lecturing experience in undergraduate courses at a tertiary institution. Ability to teach pure Mathematics modules both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Proven ability of dissemination of research findings at national and international conferences. Proven evidence of at least one publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Skills and Competencies required:

  • Candidate must be patient, person-oriented individual who can interact with students from various disadvantaged background in a manner that fosters their academic growth.
  • Computer literacy and expertise in e-learning and online teaching platforms.
  • Good lecturing and presentation skills.
  • Expertise in at least one of the areas: Algebra or Measure theory.
  • The ability to supervise research projects at honours level.
  • The ability to scaffold and effectively cascade the vision and mission of the University.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal and conflict management skills.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills.
  • Good administrative skills.

LAB TECHNICIAN (CONSUMER SCIENCE)

PEROMNES – P10, PERMANENT, 1
REFERENCE NO: WSU MTH EXT 2024/40

Qualifications:

  • B.Ed Honours NQF level 8

Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching Consumer Studies/Home Economics FET Band
  • Knowledge of Textiles and clothing and food preparation technique
  • Must hold professional teaching qualification.

Key Performance Areas:

  • Knowledge in food and nutrition and Textiles and clothing
  • Ability to plan, manage and supervise practicals in food science and textiles laboratory.
  • Ordering and receiving stock for food and nutrition and Textiles and clothing practicals.
  • Assess and evaluate students’ performance in laboratory.
  • Assist on administration work and community engagement/School Based Experience.
  • Liaise with academic and non-academic units and external parties in a responsible manner.
  • Undertake any other departmental duties as may be required.

Skills and Competencies Required:

  • Ability to work with lecturers of different majors in the programme.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the team.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Possess applied practical skills and professional content knowledge in the field of consumer science.
  • Be computer literate and familiar with consumer science and Microsoft office software applications.
  • Be innovative in coping with any challenges in the laboratories.
  • Be able to maintain professional relations between lecturers and students.
  • Valid South African driver’s license.
